My Story
James A. Rehg is a writer publishing with Cange Creek Press, LLC. His blogs on MyWritersNook.com focus on self-publishing information to help indie writers avoid the hassle of traditional publishing. Since retiring from Penn State University as a tenured Associate Professor of Engineering, Jim’s focus has been writing for fun. Adventures of the Landfill Gang, with a publication date in 2022, is the first book in a two-book coming-of-age memoir series. Cange Creek Press lists the memoirs under the Cottonwood Books imprint. Both volumes include the loosely linked escapades of four boy’s living near a dump in Midwest America in the post-World War II years. The tales carry the reader back to life in the 1940s and ’50s. The best of years to grow up in America, many Baby Boomers claim. The second in the series arrives later in the same year with more youthful adventures. Book one received an Honorable Mention in the Asheville, North Carolina, Non-fiction Writers Workshop Contest. Rehg’s first Romance novel is in the first-draft stage. As an active South Carolina Writers Association (SCWA) member, he moderates an SCWA critique group and participates in Furman University’s Olli writers’ program.
Before retirement, Jim used his formal degrees in Electrical Engineering to design instrumentation systems for space vehicles and jet fighter aircraft at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corporation, then moved into college teaching. During his almost 40 years as an engineering educator, he taught technical college and university students, organized and managed industrial automation training centers, and consulted on the design of automated manufacturing systems. He received recognition for excellence in teaching at the college, state, and national levels during his teaching career. Jim and his co-author, Glenn Sartori, wrote six university-level textbooks for Pearson Education UK. One book is in its 5th edition, two were translated into Chinese and one into Japanese. One text had the most adoptions in college and university automation courses.
